Subject: Hair turn to straw with menopause
I have stumbled across a product that’s working well for my fine hair without weighing it down, and wanted to share here in case anyone else wants to give it a whirl!
Lador Keratin Power Glue — it’s a leave-in product. I’ve been using Lador shampoos for years and both my teen and I really like them, despite having very different hair. It’s cheapest on YesStyle.com, but that’s a whole “thing” because it’s drop-shipped from Hong Kong. They have it on Amazon for just a couple of dollars more ($18ish):

It contains dimethicone, which normally I might avoid, but it hasn’t weighed down/coated/greased up my fine hair the way those products usually do.

Probably all 3. I haven’t used dye in months (bless my stylist for pushing me to embrace my natural hair color including the grays), but I know that has contributed to dry ends. I mostly have gray in one defined “stripe,” and you can tell that has a completely different texture than the other hair — much more straw. And of course I’m sure aging in general plays its role too.

Same. Permanent dye was awful for my hair.
Where do you get Demi? My natural color is black (I’m Indian). I usually use drugstore brands like L’Oréal and revlon. Grays stand out like silver pubes on my head so please don’t say go natural.

A sufficiently high dose of estrogen as part of HRT has made the biggest difference in texture and probably hair loss. I suspect equally important to the hair thinning problem is taking minoxidil.
I never, ever heat style my collarbone length (white woman) hair. Air dry only with a non-alcohol-containing gel. The right light gel keeps hair as smooth/ shiny as a heat tool
I avoid harsh detergent ingredients in shampoos. This requires a lot of annoying label reading. A caution that those bond-building regimens like olaplex actually contain some really harsh chemicals that exacerbate the problem and then helpfully cover it up with a glue coating that temporarily makes the hair shaft look improved. Kind of like most manicures or a Brazilian blowout
I wash my hair every 3 daya and use a very light conditioner because it’s fine. When my my hair texture started getting straw-like after menopause and also thinning badly, I went at this hard and it’s worked. I don’t look good with short hair so I need to be serious about protecting longer lengths. I was able to actually right the ship! I’m mid-50s
