Check out Caroline Girvan on YouTube. Her Iron series is so good and free!

Anyone want to answer more details on how the app works? Is it a video so you have to watch it while you're doing it? Are you all doing this at home with a gym?

There are a couple of options. If you are new to strength training, then I would go the traditional route and stream the workout from the app and follow along. You can do one longer (20, 30-minute) workout or stack several 10-minute workouts targeting different muscle groups.

Another option is the Peloton gym programming, also in the app. These are non-video strength workouts. I haven't tried them so can't vouch for them but you can read more here: https://www.onepeloton.com/blog/peloton-gym/

NP - who also strongly endorses Peloton's content - the strength classes in the app are videos, yes. I do them at home; my equipment here is a yoga mat and a few sets of dumbbells. They also have bodyweight strength classes.

Someone experienced could probably just do the workouts by listening to them, but for a newbie, it's important to watch so you see the form.

My only complaint is that sometimes the instructor (depending on who it is) takes too many breaks in a strength class and then I feel like we're spending too much time resting or demo'ing to get anything meaningful in, but some instructors are more efficient than others. Also, because of this, I tend to lift heavier with Peloton when using their strength to make it a little more challenging.

I really like the new-ish "Gym" tab that allows for more self-paced weightlifting workouts that are better suited for lifting heavier weights. You can also listen to your own music. It's nice for changing it up!

I'm the PP--I forgot about that new functionality in the app. I'm going to check it out. Does the instructor talk you through it or you just go at your own pace following their schedule?

So cult-like.

It’s well curated and you don’t have to worry about sifting through millions of YouTube videos to find something at the correct level. They are labeled for beginner, intermediate and advanced. The strength classes have nothing to do with any equipment that people have bought for cycling or rowing or running. PP woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning I guess! I love the Peloton app strength workouts, they have been life changing for me. Just 20-30 minutes a day is so doable for me when I can do it at home, and the results are astounding.

She said curated.

Non peloton owner here. The app’s yoga and strength classes got me through 2020-21 when gyms were closed. Happy to push that crap because it is great.

The shorter classes have less downtime - sometimes it’s more efficient to stack 3 10 minute classes than to do a 30 minute class. I do both depending on my mood - sometimes the breaks really help you gear up for your next set if you are truly aiming for failure in the exercise and going heavy. But I do find it annoying when I’m in a time crunch and using medium weights.

Another recommendation for BodyPump -- it's only offered at certain gyms and some YMCAs. It is a great program and hits most major muscle groups. It's set to music, is a fun class, and is a great workout. Google it so you can see what it looks like.
