The independent living is different from the AL floors at the Jefferson.
Independent living is great - like living in a college dorm again in that you are with people in their 'older' years, you pay for meals, locked/secure entry.

Assisted living is not guaranteed, even if you've been a long time resident there. If there is a spot available, then yes, you get it. I don't begrudge them for not having one always available - they have to fill those beds and justify staffing, etc.

When in doubt, use a geriatric care manager. It can save you the trouble of making a wrong choice and having to move again. They know all the places in the area and can tell you good/bad experiences. Do not use A Place for Mom. Choose a geriatric care manager that is compensated only by you and not in any way by the facility or anyone else.

In grad school in 1992, I was looking for an apartment in Ballston, and I walked into the Jefferson to see what they had and they said "go away kid this place is for old people". And now I'm almost old enough to live there, lol.

But I did have a great four years living in Lincoln Towers!

I have a friend whose mom currently lives in The Jefferson, but will need to move to their advanced nursing care when she comes home from a recent hospital stay. Does anyone have more recent experience with/information about the care at Jefferson? Thanks in advance.

Can you list some more of them? We’re visiting Hermitage (now The View) and also the Kensington as well as the Jefferson already, but can use more.

You don't have to buy-in for care. Plenty of nice independent and assisted living facilities charge rental month-to-month plus care fees--Brightview, Aarondale, Hermatige (non-profit).

We found several very good options in the area though he ultimately decided to stay in his home state.
