OP here,
My other kid will put Einstein first, presumably get it, and then be done with the process. So, I'm not anti-Einstein at all.
But this kid is on a track to take calculus in 9th or 10th, and I understand that Blair offers more post-calculus math options. We'll live pretty much equidistant from Blair, Northwood and Einstein.
All schools, including Einstein can handle kids with Pre-Cal in 9th. How would your child take Calculus in 9th?

No one takes calculus in 9th. Do you mean precalculus?

I'm not scared of Kennedy. I just don't see that Kennedy offers something specific for him that would make it worth taking the bus. If the choices are Northwood, Kennedy and Einstein, I'd prefer he be at one of the two that are walking/biking distance from our home.
Northwood will be under construction for 2 years and will not be walking distance from your home.
Thank you! I did not know this. Do you know where they'll be?
If I want to put Einstein second, do people have thoughts on Wheaton vs Blair as a first choice in the DCC choice process? He's a really strong math student, but pretty focused on engineering as a career. Also, I'm not sure if getting into Blair through the choice process ever happens.
We are trying not to think about whether he'd choose Wheaton or Blair's application program first. If he gets into both, of course we'd have to figure that out, but we can do that later. Whereas we do need to figure out how to rank for the regular process.

How will kids get there? Will they run busses from all over the DCC?
I don't actually know how DCC bussing works.

We are inbounds for Blair and I don't know anyone who got in from the regular DCC lottery. You can keep asking around, but I would not necessarily waste a spot trying to rank Blair in the DCC process.
Wait. Rereading your question, do you have a current 9th grader? That changes a lot of things. If you have a current 8th grader, that's one thing. If you have a current 9th grader, Blair magnet and Wheaton engineering are not on the table. You'll have to focus on the programs that start in 11th.
He’s 8th now, and will be 9th. I think he’s got as good a shot as other kids at Blair, but it doesn’t seem like admissions is predictable? I am not sure if he would like SMCS or Wheaton engineering more and will apply to both.
“Other kids” in general don’t have a good shot at SMACS. What does your kid have to offer? What classes taken? What grades? What MAP-M scores? Is he good at writing and showing passion in the essay?
