The bigger organizations have B and sometimes C teams for the same age group.
Each team gets two exceptions. The first team will be hard or impossible to make.
Easy to make the third team even out of zip.
Last year McLean Select only had an A and B team. There were probably 80 kids trying out.

How I do find the orgs with D3 teams? Newbie parent here, so all this is useful info to me.

+1 Somehow Gainesville is part of the Fairfax county league
That's actually a lot closer for us then all the terrible gym locations they have in south alexandria like Bryant HS!

NoVA Cavs. And some on Team Wootten.
Best to avoid Vienna. Even if your son makes the team, the coaches mostly play their favorites while benching the others.
Any info on Team Wootten? Do they practice and play alot? Evenly distribute playing time? My son is interested in trying out next time around.

For county league teams? Two nights of practice a week from mid-October to the end of Feb plus 1-2 games per weekend starting in Dec and the games can be close by or far, far away.
