huh? Homecoming is definitely a thing in the Boston area. I grew up there and we definitely had it.

You’re right. I was only thinking of metro west schools where there aren’t any homecoming dances. Thanksgiving weekend was when everyone who graduated went to the game. Informal groups got together.

What area has them?

+1 This is not just about homecoming, more than likely. Your DS needs to find like minded kids. My DS had the same problem in MS to freshmen year. It got a little bit better freshmen year, but he was still sort of on the outskirts of the group. It did help that he joined clubs and got involved. I told him that he needed to join clubs when he started HS.

I went to exactly one football game in four years of HS. I did not spend one second paying attention to the game. My friends and I roamed around, talking to other people there, flirting with boys in cars, and eventually walked down the hill to the corner pizza place, where we met up with some boys and made out and ate, before walking back UP the hill to get picked up by my parents exactly where I was supposed to be. Ahh, 10th grade was fun!

I’m sorry. I hope you are helping your son with whatever issue(s) he has that is causing him not to have friends. I have a son who has struggled with feeling socially awkward. Therapy has helped him tremendously.

Homecoming is a big thing at our FCPS school. Week of hype by administration at the school, pep rally, theme days. Then on the day of the dance, big party buses, pictures downtown or at country clubs.

What happens at home coming? Is it like in the movies?

I honestly don't think kids go to dances anymore because adults have infantiled teens with these "safe" after parties and watching their every move on Life 360.

I loved my dances, but the after parties were so much more fun. Kids can't socialize like they used to

My DD went last year as a freshman and swore to never go back to a single football game in her life. She’s going this year as one friend told her she’s going and will put a smile on her face. She said this will be her last year as she doesn’t enjoy it and feels it’s something you do once and then never again.

A friend at another school is going to miss her homecoming because of a soccer trip and wants to come to DD’s the next weekend but she really doesn’t seem interested. She’s always had more friends from non-school activities.

My DD went to homecoming last year. She thought it wasn't fun and will pass this year.
