My child is a Junior at O'Connell and they do a great job of making sure cell phones are away during all classes. Each classroom has these little hanging holders for the phones.

My son did an Eagle for a day at Gonzaga during the recent world cup and many students were streaming the games on their phones during class. This included many of the teachers. My son thought it was a bad look. I found it amusing.

Bumping this thread for the person who dug up the old MS thread to ask about HS cell phone policies.

Ha! Per the previous post, high income DCPS schools enforces the rule. This is what an educated affluent parent population demands. Too bad for the poor kids.

Yes, this is correct. Deal and Hardy both collect phones and watches upon entry and return upon exit. It's great!

Our DD is at Academy of the Holy Cross. They ban cell phone, and headphone, usage during the day with the exception of lunch.

Yes. It’ was viewed as “equity” issue. But this is fast changing. Many schools are now banning cell phone usage in class at least.

I don’t think it’s necessarily allowed per se but with large classes and overcrowded buildings, much hard to monitor and control.

I was actually chatting about this with a neighbor the other day. Her son’s school (Ffx co) says that phones shouldn’t be out but they don’t collect them, and most teachers don’t enforce the rule unless they see a kid in a phone during a test. She’s annoyed about it because she doesn’t trust that her son isn’t using his phone when he’s not supposed to, but he walks to/from school and she doesn’t want to take it away as punishment or anything. She even contacted the school about it but was just given the line that teachers will enforce it if they see kids with phones out. So either the kids are all really sneaky, the teachers are oblivious, or the teachers just don’t want to be bothered. Pretty sure it’s the last one, but given how much is on the plates of public school teachers, I can’t really blame them for not finding this a battle worth fighting.
