In my opinion, 9/11 accelerated the demise of civil discourse in this country, with one side labeling you a “traitor” if you weren’t sufficiently pious and patriotic.

For how long are we supposed to “acknowledge” 9/11? Serious question.

I'm 43, lifelong DC resident. Not interested in acknowledging a terrorist attack on its anniversary every year. It's been co-opted by grief porn addicts who were in Nebraska at the time anyway.

Our MS had MAP testing today. I thought it was in poor taste

We should show lots of respect in this day. Many moco families were likely affected after 125 people died and many others permanently traumatized from the crash at the Pentagon.

I work at another high school in the same general area and was in NYC that day, and I know people who died. No announcement was made and it it didn't occur to me that they should. Perhaps conversations happened in certain classes, I don't know, but I can't even imagine what kind of announcement you were expecting.

In my kid’s FCPS school, there was remembrance as well as discussion during class. I think it’s a day worth mentioning and remembering.

Was their American flag at half staff? That matters to me. But not necessarily a schoolwide announcement.

Also 53 and also agree this is okay. It's now part of history and not a recent/current event.

When I was in elementary school they wheeled a TV in on January 28 to watch the historic news. That event was on magazine covers, documentaries, and endless media for several years following it. Eventually the annual remembrance stopped and I'm not sure if schools really talk about it anymore.

If you don't recall, it was the Challenger space shuttle explosion.

Growing up in the 80s, I don't recall the schools doing a remembrance event for anything that was before my lifetime. Maybe they did, but as a 10 year old I didn't care what had happened in the ancient 1970s or earlier.

My Poolesville student said 9/11 was mentioned in this week’s email, but no other remembrance. You’re really stretching to find things to complain about.

It’s MCPS football magnet school.

😂

It's not that big of a deal. There may be some families around here who were impacted, but forgetting to announce is really not that big of a deal.

+1

It's now history. Do we need to announce every historical event?

There are many things to get upset about but this isn’t one of them.
