Don't apply ED if you are not willing to pay sticker price and are not eligible for financial aid. You need to calculate that into your decision and it is ok to own you can't or will not pay 85K+ per year for college. We did and our swimmer found a great spot at a T50 school.

We had an admissions officer admit to us that the SAT/ACT data is not a real representation. Most people who submitted scores skewed the averages and most of those who submitted were using this school as a safety to the Ivys and NESCACs. They were admitted and never showed up so the school began discounting their importance which was accelerated by COVID. This is a top 20 liberal arts college.

If you can pay that will help get you done. All these colleges are a business at the end of the day.

Test optional causes kids with lower scores to not submit, which skews the averages for that school higher and higher, in a cycle of students with scores that are high but not in that middle band choosing not to submit. IMO TO time has passed and needs to go away.

My unprepped DS first SAT was not even in the 1400s so we chose not to include in his preread to a T25. They are supporting him anyway. We’re hoping his Sept 25 SAT will be above 1400 to show he’s no slouch, though I suspect he will not need it anyway with coach support.

Right I want to know what the number is that helps. Because my kid is borderline recruitable and we are hoping the scores can help. But we need to know what score we are shooting for.

Aren’t we saying the same thing?? DC was told if it isn’t above a certain number it doesn’t matter anyway

My kid had 1480. Every school, nesac and UAA schools were good with these scores.

My kid was 1520. She took the SAT at beginning of junior year. All 5 coaches she talked extensively with told her that was high enough and she didn’t need to take again.

They are test optional so is something like 1470 high enough? Or does it have to be above 25th percentile.

If you are in the SAT/ACT range for admissions and you are supported by the coach you will be fine. What you don’t want to do is wind up having to apply on your own. Top D3 schools like Wash U, Chicago, Williams, NYU, etc tun in the low double digit or mid single digit rates for admission.
