Private schools reduce the likelihood your kid will be in a classroom with a chair thrower and you won’t have to ask on DCUM if the police should get involved.

Most don't care about getting into an Ivy. Don't know why you think that is the end "goal".

You probably don't even know what woke means.

It is the opposite of brainwashing.

The kids may not agree with each other, but they definitely respect each other a lot more than in public schools.

Kids have a lot more freedoms The teachers tell me they enjoy teaching at private more because they don't have to deal with all of the kids that have zero interest/don't care.

Think about what your taxes would be like if everyone pulled their kids out of private and put them in public.

The majority of Big3 kids attend Top 20 colleges...so by default most do care about attending a top school even if not necessarily and Ivy.

Rich/UMC people in this area are so broken.

I'm not religious, but I think some of you would benefit from some kind of faith-based values system.

I also think a lot of you need to sit down and contemplate a future in which your child goes to a decent but not "elite" college, gets a decent job in a stable but not prestigious profession, and has a life that people in the US consider ordinary, you apparently consider failure, but that 90% of human beings on the plant would consider the pinnacle of human achievement. And just sit with that image in your mind until you see it for what it actually is so that you can have normal human reactions to things and not this psychotic bubble-induced anxiety about the dumbest possible crap all the time.

Sure, let's play along with the troll today, because it's Friday.

Honestly, I see so many reasons for private school. We live in an overcrowded school district where the administration continues to make decisions for the school system that I do not agree with. Our high school has over 4,000 students and our middle schools are so overcrowded students can barely move in the hallways.

Even if we lived in a great school district, the 1:1 resources in public schools, in my experience, aren't often as strong as what students receive in private schools. My step-DC was in a specialized HS academy. Even in that special program, the support they received when applying to colleges was almost non-existent. They were not guided on safety schools, reach schools, and middle-of-the-road schools, as, in my personal experience, private schools do a good job of doing. They ended up only getting into one college as they did not apply as strategically as they could have if given the proper support. Yes, parents can step in and guide, but often teenagers work better with other influences than just their parents.

My main goal with private school is a supportive environment for my child to learn where they receive the guidance they need at each step in their schooling.

Don't assume that it's only lucky Sidwell students getting Marxism. 8th grade social studies in DCPS is now Action Civics, with a focus on DC. I am a liberal person and most people would be surprised that I am critical, but personally, I'd like more actual history for our students. (And for the record, haven't noted any Marxism coming through my Sidwell student.)

To have teachers empowered to have control over how they teach . At our local well ranked public, every aspect of what was taught was specified by the county board of Ed, and it was continually dumbed down in the name of “equity.”

Also, I have personally known many DCPS grads who struggled in college. Sure, on DCUM somebody's uncle's cousin's friend left JR and aced his classes at Harvard but in my real-life world, among people I know and trust, (relatives, close friends, etc) there are many grads who struggled. So the point of private school for us is far, far better instruction.

Oof...can we answer the question without having to deride other schools. I know plenty of public and private kids that have struggled at college...have close friends' kids from private school that either deferred or had to take leave at Top 10 schools due to psychological issues (which was impacting grades for the one taking leave...but not saying they couldn't do the work, just that their problems were preventing them from fully functioning). I don't then spew here that many private school kids have horrible psychological problems.

Public school kids that take many AP classes and score well on the tests and have high SAT scores do just fine and many thrive in college. Yes, in my real life world too.

It’s to be treated like a client. This board is littered with examples of why the family experience even in top publics sucks.

Our kids have also learned how to think through and analyze complex questions without promoting trite conclusions with little evidence.

Stick with public or homeschooling then OP. No one wants you at private with all of your negativity.

If you don’t know, don’t worry about it. Those that do know are already fighting for an inadequate number of spots at Sidwell, Potomac, STA, GDS, etc….

You go do you OP👍

what is the point of paying 60k so your kids get brainwashed by marxism at sidwell?

Why is it that people who routinely invoke Marxism almost never understand it and universally have not read it? Don't worry, no one is assigning Marx at Sidwell. But if they were, that would be consistent with a classical education in which a basically literacy in influential ideas is foundational, and critical thinking skills and open debate permit students to the merit of competing conceptions of the good. But I'm sure I lost you at "no one is assigning Marx at Sidwell."

I live in a great school district but our HS is over 3500 kids. No thanks.

I’m the PP whose kid saw kids vaping in the classroom and more (I didn’t even list all the issues). We already live in a supposedly good school district. People move to our district “for the schools,” which in hindsight is a ludicrous concept.
