Who is paying?

I would look at thebbedroom layout ofnthe house and not agree to the trip if there isn't enough rooms or the layout doesn't work for me and my family.

We used to take trips where we would be crammed in 1 room or the theory wad that all the kids can just sleep on air mattresses or couches. My kids don't sleep like that. So if I can't find accommodations that offer 2 rooms for my family alone we don't go. At this point it's 6 bedroom houses or bust.

Traveling w in laws isn’t vacation. I made this clear before marrying. Visiting or spending time w family is spending time w family and involves some form of inconvenience and disappointment. Vacation is vacation.

And I don't really care who pays, when I travel with my parents, dh and I always will take the lesser room. They're older and walking 10 miles a day at Disney or dealing with my kids jumping on them is a lot harder for them than it is us. They're sore at night.

Frankly I care more about my kids being given a room than dh and I getting a room. If my kids are on the couch in the family room, they won't sleep and will make the trip hell for everyone. DH and I easily will sleep on the pull out and likely will enjoy watching tv from the bed.

Why are you getting there last? I'd argue that that's why you're given the shit room.

Is your dh the youngest? It could be the dynamic where priority goes to parents, older siblings and the youngest (and healthiest) gets what’s left. Agree, arrive earlier and claim a nice room. Leave the nicest for the in laws (otherwise, they’d be pressuring your DH to switch with mom & dad). In the big scheme of things, it’s no big deal though.

You need to get there first or have more kids than sister and BIL (who are sharing the room with you).

Next time pay for the house then get there first. Problem solved.
