How is air fryer different than an oven?

I have not done any fads, but I am always finding new recipes. I now make great Panang curry, not my culture at all. I love making lumpia, I learned how to bake baguettes in 2020. I now make many pies that I never did.

However, one thing I do not do, is buy kitchen gadgets. I like good knifes which restaurant depot has for cheap, and nice stainless-steel pans and my nice bakeware and my cast irons.

As a COVID treat, I got a waffle iron, and I’ve used it much more than I expected for waffles, chaffles, and Ghirardelli’s brownie mix. I also use my stick mixer much more than I expected, and my regular mixer and blender much less.
I briefly had an ice cream maker, and I imagine Earl Grey ice cream and jasmine tea sorbet. I think I used it maybe twice.

What do you do w brownie mix in waffle maker?

yes explain, can i make brownies in a waffle maker?

Yeah, what is this. Sounds incredible! Maybe with some ice cream on top?!

I had bought a lot of pampered chef items and never use them.

I am generally averse to expanding kitchen gear. My son and I saw an episode of GBBO where they made aebliskiver (pancake balls) that require a special pan. I ordered one on Amazon (less than $20) and we had fun making them for a while. My son loves to cook and it was a way to spend time together.

Dang the haters on that tiktok pasta!

The one with the feta and cherry tomatoes and olive oil is one of my staple dishes haha.

I don't have tiktok, so I'm probably missing out on the new fad dishes.

I made the giant cupcake for my daughter's birthday one year. It made a ton of cake. We couldn't even finish it. I donated the mold a few months later.

You can tell what fads have ended at the thrift shops ...there will be a whole shelf of them.

I’m a maximalist when it comes to kitchen gadgets. I love them all, and fortunately have enough room to store them. I definitely go through phases where I am more obsessed with some than others, but I always return to the good ones weeks or months later. The Instant Pot, air fryer, and Vitamix get daily/weekly use. Others like the immersion circulator, Breville pizzaiolo, and dehydrator go in and out of favor a few times a year.

I think you have to be realistic about whether you’ll use an appliance again and how much storage space is available. I enjoy cooking and DH hates it, so I am always happy to have more tools at my disposal when inspiration strikes. But if I haven’t used something in a year+ I give it away.

Peanut oil is like $20 a gallon if not on sale.
Expensive fries.
