I don't think "I won't let my kid drive my cars" is an option with the insurance companies. They still have access to the keys.

But it sounds like OP's son is no longer going to be a driver, at all. That's why she said that if he does come home for the summers she will seek out alternative transportation for him-I assumed that meant he'd either have to have mom/dad drive him, take an Uber, or bike/walk/bus.

People are missing kids move out anyhow and most won’t have a car.

My daughter graduated college in 2022 and moved to Boston she has no car. So dropping a kid from your policy may have zero impact on future car insurance rates.

BTW some insurance companies of teen had accident on your policy and you drop them you still get penalized for accident.
