Provide the school policy that indicates this happens.

This… plenty of kids give it up. It’s not fair to ask children to lie.

Wow that's crazy. I literally have to upload my mortgage for FCCPS every year.

I bet not many items bounce.

Hey, if someone never updated their mailing address with the school, it would go to their old address. But if they forwarded all their other mail… It would be for that as well.

With a change of address For the first year, it will be forwarded. But after that expires, as long as it is a legitimate address the PO is going to deliver it. And if I get random mail to my address for the previous owner, after a year, it goes in the trash.

They send with do not forward instructions, as well as return to sender.

We saw this happen in my kid's class one year. A new kid showed up mid year then suddenly was gone. Asked the teacher what happened, she said residency fraud.

Sure, it happens. But the amount of enforcement efforts are likely commensurate with the actual frequency, which is to say rare.

And often, the people who mutter and opine loudly about what they think other families are doing usually are wildly off base.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Happens more often than you think. Verification is not effective.

I was gonna say, FCCPS doesn't play with that crap. Too many people in the past have tried to sneak their kids into the city schools, they had to put a stop to that. Tax dollars y'know.

It's more like the kid will say something to the teacher and the teacher has a responsibility to tell school social worker or registrar - who will then check it out. Also if mail gets sent back or something like that.

I’ve seen several posts on DCUM making this allegation. How can you be so sure? Wouldn’t Arlington Now be chasing down something like that if it were true? I’ve only ever seen the claim on this site.

Because my child, along with thousands of others went to the preschool where she works and saw her with maryland plates, including the day she got into an accident in front of the school when she swore she fell asleep because of her long commute. Everyone knew she lived in Maryland and used her aunts address who also worked at the daycare at the time. In fact, if you look up the mother on the arlington traffic citations record site, you can find she has several traffic citations over the years (when kids in APS) that list her Maryland address. This went on for years.

That being said, I’ve been told the family has officially established residency in Arlington, and it was before the Cotton ball incident took place. So it really has nothing to do with the case.

OP, if it’s Fairfax County, you’re good. I TRIED to update my address when we moved and my kid changed schools; we still received mail sent to the wrong address. Then they changed his address but he was listed at the wrong School.

I actually had to re-enroll him at the new school using specific paperwork to get his information, Schedule, etc. changed.
