Chill out. Once your child is in middle school you need to stop talking about "screen time." If you have an issue with what apps they're using, delete them. But if they're just playing games or whatever to pass the time on the boring bus ride or watching reasonable YouTube videos at home, whatever. They're not a baby.

Your kid isn’t a toddler anymore. Just let them play on their phone during the boring bus ride.

I should also add that both have strenuous extra curriculars that keep them busy as well.
