I can't imagine that option G (having school on Monday, Dec. 23, before closing for the rest of the week) will be popular, but I could be wrong.

I agree, the survey was very nicely structured! Kudos to MCPS.

Agreed! My only issue is that we get a million emails from them and I found out about the survey on DCUM!

Sport practices start the second wednesday (?) in August. They don't start July 1.

Completely agree that it makes no sense to have schools open December 23rd, but if that day is off what day will they take away?

Right. I agree the survey is very user friendly, which is new and appreciated. But I do think it’s important to ask these questions with context. I don’t want to end up with a super early start and super late end just to make that 12/23 day happen, for instance.

Wouldn't it just be one day earlier or later?

Maybe, but if it’s one day earlier that means a Friday start, which kills an entire week from a vacation or camp standpoint. More likely is what the other PP said, which is they have a few one-off days that may get eliminated. They have a lot of groups who they often want to align these days to serve (lunar new year, Eid, Diwali, Rosh hashanah) plus Election Day and end of quarter grading. It’s really a juggling act to fit it all in.

There's usually other single days we got off during the school year. Personally, I like them for those random breaks but I'm sure others feel differently. I would assume one of those days would be taken away if we are closed 12/23.

They can't cut out the testing, and even if they could, testing does not add extra days to the school calendar.

And let's be clear, that it is stupid federally mandated testing. State is just implementing. (Beginning with George W. Bush, No Child Left Behind)
