I don't eat meat. So no yucky germs.

Which I always do, regardless of whether I am reaching for a spice bottle.

I guess it wouldn’t make compelling TV, but it bothers me that you never see food tv competitive chefs wash their hands after rolling around in the raw meat!

It has nothing to do with the spice containers. People just need to wash their hands after using raw meat.

I don't worry about spice containers and bacteria. At all.

I do not think I am the most germ avoiding person but isn't that just common sense. I touch nothing after touching raw meat. I might have one hand that is dirty and use the other for shaking a spice. I am 54 not changing anything at this point. Did any one of the participants become ill?

The article doesn't say you should wash your spice jars. It says you should wash your HANDS after touching raw meat, and not just grab the spice jar with meaty hands.

Did you read the article?

Nope. It's from the Today show. That in itself disqualifies it as an "article". I stand by by non washing.

The whole reason why wars were fought over access to spices is because spices were coveted so highly. They were needed for safe food consumption because spices inhibit bacterial growth and people didn't have refrigerators back then. Worrying about bacterial growth in spice containers should be way down on your list of things to worry about.
