Thanks for telling me what my job is. Again, come and help any day of the week. Furthermore, I’m not physically putting kids on buses; they are called and it’s the kids job to walk down the hallway, walk out the front door and get on the bus on their own. I have kids that I am in charge of in the classroom so I cannot personally escort every child to the bus. Rather than blaming the teacher, maybe look at the processes/lack of bodies that are available in the building? But again, thanks for reminding me that I’m meant to keep kids safe when your children are the ones that physically attack me. I put myself on the line every single day to teach. You have no idea.

The kid WAS kept safe. This story is about a kid being put on the wrong bus, not a kid being put on the wrong bus and tragedy in the aftermath.

Thank you teacher for what you do. When this happened to my kid we used it as a learning opportunity.

This happened to my kid once. Definitely not normal but not things happen. These days what I would to is
1. get your kid an AirTag for their backpack (just in case)
2. teach them what to do - definitely not get off the bus unless they see you or another caretaker.

For a small kid I think the bus driver is supposed to make sure a parent is there. They should have took your kid back to the school.

I get that it's stressful and scary but what happened is exactly what you seem to think is lacking-- there are safety protocols in place in case of mistakes. Kid was on the wrong bus. The bus driver made stops and that child did not have a grownup waiting for them, so the bus driver did not let them get off the bus at any of those stops. When all the stops had been made, the child was brought back to school so that parents could be contacted. Your child was safe and supervised the entire time and at no time was in any danger. Of course you did not know that at the time, but the priority was keeping the child safe, and that's what was done. No system is 100% and people are human and make mistakes. Thankfully, the system in place worked perfectly and one mistake--the child being put on the wrong bus--did not cause a catastrophe.

Again, I get that it's scary, but really, you should be more relieved and secure right now. The system was tested and it passed.

MCPS has shown time and again how incompetent they are. Nothing surprises me anymore other than how many parents continue to put up with this mess.

Had 2 mix ups over the past couple years. They suck, but they were honest mistakes. One was because my kid told the teacher he was supposed to be a car rider when he was supposed to be a bus rider, and the teacher believed him. The other was because of our pick up schedule. It worked out, so give teachers some grace and move on.

Not normal. Put an AirTag or get your kid a verizon gizmo.

Yes it's normal. Mistakes happen. You should praise whomever is responsible for giving your child the opportunity to gain some grit in life.

Tale as old as time. This happened to us on the first day of K with our oldest. He's now a college sophomore and suffered no ill effects other than my own brief hysteria. I know it's upsetting, but I promise you, it happens every year and it always ends up just fine. You can complain, but it's unlikely to prevent a mixup in the future. It's a giant school system with a massive transportation network, and the opening days of school are always chaotic.
