My freshman DD said she wasn’t excited or nervous for school, but she was up at 5a this morning, so I’m thinking there were some feelings.

My 15 year old was more nervous than excited.

My 13 year old is looking forward to more structure and seeing people on a regular basis. Not every kid has been playing Fortnite all summer.

Senior is over it. Sophomore was very excited--his sport plays in the Fall. Both boys. All boy HS.

OP, my DS (13) isn’t excited about preparing supplies and couldn’t care less what he wears. He is looking forward to seeing friends daily.

My DD (10) was very excited for her supplies, the open house, finding out who is in her class, etc.

Both of them enjoy school and start to be bored by the end of summer.

To previous posters points, I don’t often get excited to go back to work after vacay, but I am often ready to get back to my routine- sleep in my own bed, see my colleagues, etc. Animals are creatures of habit.

Are they in public? Mine are in private and over the moon excited about returning. I was the same way growing up - attended public and private and was always excited about everything regarding the first day of school.


LOL, yeah, that’s the salient detail here. Public v private.

As it happens we (OP) have one in private and one in public. I myself went to public ES and MS then one of the best privates in the country. Not relevant.

That giddiness about first day of school and seeing friends again and having fresh markers and a new pair of sneakers? that’s all from my lowly public school era.

Keep clinging to that fig leaf of superiority though. It’s doing wonders for you.

My 13 year old 8th grade boy was excited - mainly to see his friends. He’s an excellent student and gets along with most everyone. My 10 year old 5th grade girl was also excited to go.

My kids don’t have their own devices, including phones. Maybe that makes a difference? Both kids had plenty of social opportunities this summer, too. Along with pool and water parks.

I missed my friends all summer and was excited to get to reconnect at school. Todays kids have nonstop ability to connect via technology.
