I totally understand this position. You need to protect yourself from any false accusations. Especially if you are a male teacher.

On the other hand, it’s so hard for kids because they are little and most are genuine about their affection and I would say most teachers my kids have had welcome and are OK with hugs.

I’m a substitute and normal to get hugs from students up to 3rd grade. That’s how I ended up sick for the entire month of December last year.

I am a HS teacher and love when kids give a hug! For my own kid, I tell him we can ask other people for any H— a hug, handshake, or high five.
