Colleges do not expect to see calc instead of stats, especially for someone pursuing a human is course of study.

I'm glad my kid is on it. If she sticks with it, she'll be able to take calc and stats before she graduates from HS. Those are classes I wish I had taken in HS. Would have made college/grad school easier.

PP was talking about kids who don't stick with it and don't go to college/grad school in science.

I agree but…why would a child who hates math take Alg 2 in 9th? That certainly is a difficult path for a student disinterested in pursuing math..

Because she was placed in the pre-algebra when she was 10 years old, and is running out of steam 3 years later.

The problem is a donut hole in the policy, where students who are a little good at math get stuck when they run out of gas senior year, and the "math every year" requirement doesn't have allowances or options for counting "honors physics" or a social science research seminar as an "algebra-based course". It doesn't even count computer science if taken the same year as another math course.

Also, it frustrates students/parents who are obsessed with maximizing weighted GPA but can't handle the material of the full liberal arts honors curriculum.

I'm sorry. But your daughter messed up. They need to roll with math all four years. If it's not too late, get her into Calculus AB now.

I should have specified that she’s a riding Junior taking precalculus this year. So I guess next year she’ll need to decide between calculus and stats. Any advice on that choice?
