I hadn't realized how dangerous U Mich was. So many cases of rape there.

This is not a remotely accurate list. Ann Arbor is the most dangerous place in America to be a student? Really? Palo Alto? Are you sure?

Neighborhood scout has the violent crime data on the areas. Violent crime is the concern.

Yeah, the data says that UVA is twice as safe as UMD. Can this data be trusted? Who the heck knows.

I'm not sure. You may be right. But I read the report posted at the top of this thread. UVA isn't even in the "worst 100" of dangerous campuses (which surprised me). UMD is 61st, near University of Illinois at Chicago. Anyone can read the data if they're interested in getting a statistical POV about the relative safety of the two campuses.

Vanderbilt alum here. Its inclusion surprises me. When I was there (late 90s), sure, off campus a few blocks and between West End and downtown were sketchy. But campus itself was a bubble. You might hear of a stolen bike or a car stereo, but never any violent crimes on a person. Since then the surrounding area has gentrified even more. With the city’s growth has come more tourists and probably more public drinking and pickpockets etc. But the west end of Nashville is exceptionally safe.

The crimes that occurred over 20 years ago were finally reported in 2019 2021 during the Dr Anderson molestation scandal findings. They did NOT occur in those two years. So you’re looking at behavior that happened last century and applying it to the recent past and present.

How can you currently call a campus the most dangerous based off statistics that happened more that two decades ago?

Was very surprised how safe College Park is. Charlottesville Va has 450% more violent crime than CP.
