Op again. I don’t mean to keep this up bc I think it’s clear what the consensus is. But in front of their house is a long tree lawn, then their driveway, then a very small stretch of grass, maybe 5 feet. Half is their lawn and half is ours. Then our driveway, then our long tree lawn in front of our house. We put our cans next to the long tree lawn nowhere near our neighbors. Instead of using the long tree lawn they use that small 5 foot stretch which absolutely guarantees they end up on our driveway. So as I type this I think I’ll just put ours in that spot. If they are going to end up in our driveway because that’s where the truck dumps them might as well be ours.

I am also confused. You said that you have a 3-car driveway but don’t need all that space. Are you saying that the garbage truck leaves all the cans scattered across your full 3-car driveway so that you can’t get in or out?

I think what the neighbors are doing is fine - they are leaving their cans in an appropriate spot. If the garbage truck normally scatters them so they are blocking your way, I would just park my car between their cans and the road to show that you can’t get to your garage. I think they would notice it’s an issue and hopefully scurry over sooner to get their cans but they literally don’t have any control over where the trash folks leave their cans.

Where do you want their full trash cans to be placed? Can you "catch" the neighbors bringing out the trash and direct them to the better place? Be nice and say please and thank you. I get it OP. I don't want to come home to find my neighbor's trash cans blocking my driveway.

This isn’t a neighbor issue, it’s a trash truck issue. Our driveway is about 10 feet from our neighbors, and depending how fast the crews are working/how hard they throw the bins, we wind up with one of their bins right by or in front of our driveway.

The neighbors put the cans out every week, and every week when they get home - after you - the cans are right where they put them out. They don’t even know that anything is amiss, they think the spot they put the cans is working out just fine.

Nobody is taking advantage of you, it’s a ‘poo happens’ kind of thing. Personally I would use this situation as a means to stretch yourself - either to let go of annoyance, or to meet the neighbors and learn to converse with them.

What I meant, is I get home first in my house. And yes, I do see that, which is why I said in my OP that one tactic was "I'm not sure you're aware but..." because I really don't know when they're home, if they're home during the day, etc. I get this. And I was asking if there was any way for me to even have this conversation without coming across like many of you are seeing me as, so I think I see the answer. I don't think as many people responding would be so generous and act like it's no big deal to do this every week, but fine enough. I *am* doing every week, so it's all good I guess.

I feel like the trash collectors are probably going to dump the bins there regardless of where your neighbors put them. Our leave them all over the place, including on the opposite side of the street on occasion. They're hustling, not keeping track of what cans should go where.
