So most kids just carry their winter coat around all day if they don’t do lockers? Too bad not more time in between so could use lockers, but at our school told the short bells between classes to prevent “bad behavior” so I get it.
Most middle schoolers don’t wear winter coats.
Yup. They’ll wear their hoodies year round.
That's allowed?

Yes, hoodies are allowed in most every school.
Yes, parents let their kids wear a hoodie instead of a winter coat. It doesn’t get dangerously cold here in the winter. If a kid chooses to be cold, that’s their choice.

I think this is so kid specific though. Some kids could probably use another year of elementary.
Same. My daughter is loving her first week of 7th. She said the kids are really nice and she’s met a lot so far. She told me the stories she heard were exaggerated and she hasn’t seen anything scary, any fights or vaping. She has older siblings that said way too much. Let’s hope it stays that way for a little while. Kilmer in FCPS

Just a tip, might not work for everyone... In our school they only allows 7th and 8th graders to play sports, not 6th graders. But they do let them be in the school play. My daughter participated and that's when she really started to love school. They did a great job with the play, the kids were really nice. At her school, you can also do stage crew if you don't want to act, sing, and dance. So just sharing in case it helps, joining an activity is a great way to make friends and feel a better sense of belonging.

They werent, but kid autopilot went to bathroom between classes and changed out for PE anyway, and lost track of street clothes.

This. I have yet to see a single middle schooler wear a coat.
Our school stopped assigning lockers, mostly because no one was using them. (Available upon request; athletes use the locker room.)
