My mother was a rabid supporter and watched Fox all day everyday. So sad my time with her during her last two years was spent deflecting and redirecting our conversations away from politics. Her anger towards me for not sharing her views made it even more difficult.

The post doesn't have the quality I was expecting for an obvious troll post, to the point where I am wondering if it is real and the real objection is to moving.

Most of us aren't foaming at the mouth and moving because of our political beliefs. This is actually a parenting forum. I come here when I have time, but I'm not watching YouTube conspiracy videos all day.

And, yes, we happen to live in DC, but the vast majority of us don't have political jobs, even if we work for the government. There is more to life than politics and hating other people. We also have families, and other things to do.

I know of four marriages in my circle that ended over trump support (and lots more friendships). And I’d divorce my husband too. It was initially about their values but with increasing cult behavior, it became about their sanity too. I can’t respect anyone who thinks the guy is anything other than a vile human and con man and I sure won’t be married to one. Fortunately my previously life long R husband became an independent when the gop nominated the carnival barker.

If what you're saying is true, think of the wider implications. Roughly 33-50% (because the definition of Trump supporters is shifting with competition in the primary) is insane and unreasonable. I would try to treat it like you have a relative with dementia. Don't engage with or encourage him to spout off his irrational thoughts.

Like, let's say you're at the dinner table and he starts expounding and not letting anyone else get a word in edgewise.

Try something like, let's all tell the positives and negatives of our days. Larla, what happened today that was fun? What was hard?

If he tries to bring it up one on one, say something like, "Honey, you've got a right to your own opinions. Can we not talk about that right now though? It's kind of giving me a headache." Or "It's making me feel really anxious."

That's what I do with my mom. And I agree with her opinions, I just don't always want to hear her give a lecture about her issue of the day at the dinner table.

It’s also a good warning if you think you possess some special truth that others just can’t see, like OP’s husband likely does.
