Yeah, my thought as the husband has some paid role in a religious or cultural institution and she has volunteered for an affiliated entity, so if she just bails it will reflect back on him.

I think a lie or suck it up are probably the only answers. And if a lie you’ll probably need to give a ramp down period — “I’m having a lot of unexplained health issues and i don’t think i will be able to continue in this role. I can stay on part-time to do x, y, z while you get a new volunteer in place.” Cor you can be honest and say “I’ve never done X before and I think I’d be terrible at it. Can we find someone else to do that part? “.

First, call your co-workers / friends at your prior work locations.

Tell them what is going on. Listen to their advice (if any).

Maybe your new job is violating regulations with their asks?

Maintain connections with prior volunteer employer.

If it gets too bad, try to transfer back. That way, you are still “doing the work,” just in a different local.

Same here. If you're really concerned about jeopardizing his career, then invent an excuse or keep doing it.

If it’s the officer’s wives club, those things only mean something to the participants. Opting out is not jeopardizing a career
