Not odd at all. It’s a great way to expose them to literature they wouldn’t pick on their own; different genres, picking books above their reading level increases vocabulary, even if read to, plus it creates a lot of opportunities for dialogue

OP, what you are doing with your daughter seems sweet, especially since you both still seem to enjoy it. No need to stop.

As long as they are still interested and enjoy it. Have also done audio books. Sometimes they read a book on their own and just discuss with me. You can also move it to a family or Mom & Me book club scenario as they get older.

I could have written your post. My DD also starting MS in a week. I still read to her most nights. She is an only, I’m sure if she had younger sibs I would have stopped by now.
I’ll stop when she wants to I guess.

I stopped reading to one around middle school age. Stopped prematurely reading to the other due to reasons beyond my control, and kind of regret it. Have picked it up again. Sadly they are more interested in phones than books.

I have a freshman in high school. I don't read to him anymore but we listen to audio books together instead. He tells more about his day and then we listen together for a while. He picks the books now. Sure, I'm listening to LitRPG but I don't care because it's time with him.
