NP who loved Kingsolver’s Demon Cooperhead. I was drawn in after the first sentence and felt transported completely into the narrator’s world.

The poster below noted that Demon Copperfield, which has received rave reviews, is a slog at 600 pages. It's a great example of exactly what I am trying to avoid. I am asking for a book that was worth the pages.

I'd consider medium to longish anything over 400 pages.

I wouldn't consider David Copperfield a "slog" at all. If anything, it is an easy read for it's length given how entertaining it is.

Seems to be some confusion here over which book is being discussed. David Copperfield or Demon Copperhead?

I personally love 19th century epics, with Les Miserables at the top of the list.
