I'm surrounded by immigrant men from corporate world. Men who have intelligence and humor and who manage to have good job in America, know enough english to be interesting and funny in conversation.

Op here - I think this is my initial feeling. When he alluded to thinking I was Dominican - and then learning I wasn’t - I sensed something. Not quite disappointment but something.

We have a second date Sunday and I will be more laid back to allow him to take the lead and determine our chemistry.

As someone who speaks multiple languages and is married to a man who's native language is not English, I can easily say that it's a bit of both. My personality changes when I speak in a language that I"m not entirely fluent in. I'm not as witty or chatty in covernsation - obviously. My DH likewise lights up when speaking his native language. Sometimes it's a PITA to speak your 2nd language. Maybe he just prefers Spanish speakers.
