Wow really? I found Duke's campus to be absolutely stunning. The gothic architecture is in my taste though.

Ivy doesn't mean better, especially when talking about a school like Duke. For business and econ Duke could very well be better but I think for most intents and purposes they are peer schools that will place into the top business and finance opportunities if a student makes the most of either school.

I personally find Duke's campus kind of creepy--too much sameness in buildings, since was rebuilt all at once, not all that long ago relatively speaking. But a lot of people like that kind of look and others don't care about such things. Your DS definitely just needs to visit both to see whether he likes the feel. And is he a kid who wants to join a fraternity or is he a partier? Look into that at both campuses, too.

You really have to like winter sports to be happy at Dartmouth.

You should visit both. They are both excellent, but the feel is so different, I cannot imagine a student happy at Dartmouth being happy at Duke and vice versa

Both will be exceeding difficult.

My friend's daughter is MISERABLE at Dartmouth in large part because is not a frat/party kid. She just finished her freshman year was debating not returning. The game day decision was that she'd try another year.
She went to high school at a diverse school in the DMV so wasn't raised in the sticks but just can't seem to find her people at Dartmouth. I think there was also this expectation that she would have this super awesome college experience (she got a spot at her dream school!) but it's been a complete bust.

Lest anyone jump on here and say I'm a troll---no, definitely not. My kids are younger. I've just been surprised to hear how hard it's been for her since she's a super well adjusted and lovely kid.
