Definitely apply to both academies and TJ
How good of a chance depends on many factors but she can only control her own performance so focus on that.
For Academies there is a test that tests logic, problem solving, math etc. There is also an essay. They had shared a couple of prompts from last year (I believe it should be on the Academies Admissions page) so go through that and think of a few similar prompts to prepare.
For TJ, there is a math problem solving essay. The "problem" itself is simple with many answers/no one right answer so important to list your assumptions and how you arrived at your thinking. There is also 3 or 4 short statements based on "Portrait of a Graduate" skills - Innovator, Communicator, Collaborator etc. Think of situation based responses for each. (Think of how you would answer in a behavioral interview - Tell me about a situation where you exhibited XYZ skill).

OP - ur kid would also need to do well on the problem essay.

I have seen quite a few kids who appeared very strong on paper, but had no clue with the essay.

general math skills, reading up on science topics can help imo

How good of chance? Who knows. My kid was rejected at TJ.

I would suggest you apply in sophomore round. I would bet a significant sum that your child would get in if she is still interested. Best of luck.

DC has similar profile and get in sophomore round.

Possibly, but the school has a low rate. Some are definitely not free lunch.
