You don’t get to a place where you are blowing through expended calories until you don’t need to drop weight. 30 or 45 minutes on a stationary bike at 150-200 watts or less isn’t going to make up for poor eating habits. Even 2 hours will still only net 1400 or so, which is generous and easily gets blown through by eating poorly.

Husband needs to eat better and drop the alcohol. That works much easier for men than women in that age bracket. At 5’10”, the weight will fall off and body recomp is pretty easy and straight forward.

He may need to cut out the cheat days and the booze to see progress. He needs to change his rx with food not just to lose but to maintain.

Focusing on protein and high fiber green veg and minimizing starches (chains of sugars - grains, starchy veg) has been really helpful to me.

Weight loss is almost all diet, exercise is good for health and can help with maintenance. He is still eating like a fat guy and drinking (empty calories + weaker willpower) a few days each week.

I feel like I use my proper eating to lose weight.

I use that weight loss to help fuel my workouts better.

The workout purpose is because I want to / enjoy it / have goals / a little tiny bit of it is for loss and toning up. But, it’s just helping the loss—the primary driver is eating well.
