Oh come on. I am a new PP and don't think the fact that her kid has special needs is extenuating. There is nothing wrong with the OP wanting to get something for her kid who is moving out.

And people snarking on not needing anything for a room rental- I am glad you were never my roommate as there is a myriad of things that you can bring to a room rental situation besides a blanket- cleaning supplies, cooking supplies, potted plants, etc.

Congratulations! This is indeed a big milestone, more so if there are special needs.

However, imho your subject line was what caused snark. Its not a new house but a rental room so requirements are very different.

This might be premature for a room rental, but when I bought my first house, my Dad bought me a large, fully stocked tool kit.

We kind of chuckled when he gave it to us, bc everyone else was sending flowers or more traditional house-warming gifts.

But it was an incredibly thoughtful gift. One I still use 20 years later, and one I didn't appreciate how expensive it actually was, as well

This post is for odd…what kind of gift would she even need for a room rental…a blanket or a bath towel? Not sure what meaningful advice you are seeking, this isn’t her “first new home.” It’s more like staying in a motel with kitchen privileges.
