For juniors taking AP classes very little happens after the AP exam (altho some teachers do extra projects)

What are the child labor laws? Does Maryland allow a 17 year old to work during school hours?

He tells the new boss he wouldn't leave him in the lurch so he hopes he understands why Brandon can't leave Nat in the lurch. The new boss says "I hope you're worth waiting for."

Nobody needs a week's worth of training to be a camp counselor. One day is sufficient and that's WITH CPR training.

Meh. Being responsible for kids vs. working at the beach club for a boss who watches Young and Restless during lunch breaks? Camp counselor has more responsibilities than Beach Clubbso I can see how a week training for a camp is good but not necessary for Beach Club.

I do love that you used an example from 90210 to prove your point!

I'm going to guess that it's a camp in another state, probably a Southern one, where kids get out earlier.

There are plenty of camps in other areas. Find a different job.

As a HS teacher I don't accommodate unexcused absences. 50% all 'round.

you know - you don't have to call names - but because you did, I feel compelled to respond. First, he's a great student. Second, it's a 10 week overnight camp - so yes, more than a day of training is required. Third, it's lots of good life skills and better, imho, than a "min wage job", but even so, there are valuable lessons regarding team work, responsibility, and judgment that are wrapped up in the job. A major component of the job is coralling and caring for your children - some of whom have never been away from home, have behavioral issues, or otherwise need special attention - so you better hope he thinks its an "important" job and that he gets more than 30 minutes of CPR training. Further, people take a week of leave from their "important" "job" all the time - I'm not sure how your analogy is at ALL fitting.

Teacher here. Although you are only talking about 3 full days 6/10-12, this is typically when a final unit test or project presentations would occur. You need to let your grade level administrator know (start of 4th Qtr) to request that the absences are excused. Then your student would work with the teachers to finish any tests/projects by the Friday before. Make sure your kid hustles in 3rd Qtr to earn all As, so that if something ends up a B in 4th Qtr, the semester grade is still an A.

LOL. This is not a student that gets As.

Anonymous wrote:No. Junior year is important. They could miss a test. My kids had assignments due that week. And it might irritate a teacher who they want a letter of recommendation from.

One or two days, maybe. A whole week? No

Great advice - thanks!
