Wow. Every year?

We just joined a few years ago. The initial fee was $625 and that’s all. Still a good amount of money but not as much as some are mentioning. Each year after that we pay annual dues which has been less than that so far. We go quite often.

Ours is $800.

$800 to join or annual dues?

I consider pool membership as “insurance” for a hot miserable summer where I just am desperate to get the kids out of the house.

Well worth the premium to me. Sometimes we collect on our policy, sometimes we have better things to do or weather doesn’t cooperate.

Similar to season ski rentals — we could have a low snow season with few trips or spend many weekends at local slopes. But I will pay a LOT to insure I don’t have to trek my 3 kids through the daily ski rental assembly line.

This is our view about pool membership as well. Sometimes I feel guilty we spent so much ($1k) on something we don't use all that often but for the time being it is worth it to us to spend that money.

Ours was $500 one time joining fee. We split it over 2 years. The summer fee is $600 but $550 if you pay before March 1st which we do.
So it’s $550 per summer now. We are in moco.

Nova has far fewer public pool options.

They are great but impossible to visit on a weekend without long wait

Yes, though there are a bunch of regional water parks that are pretty great. Not the same vibe as the neighborhood pools in MoCo but an option if you don't want to pay for a private pool club.

Love this! We live in an area with both town beaches that we have to pay for and pools. I keep track of visits per year to make sure we’re using them. We are on track with our pool visits but way behind on beach visits. Our kid’s sports and swim team make it harder to get to the beach vs. when they were little. Definitely going this afternoon!

I definitely feel like I need to get my moneys worth. I don’t view it as a cost per visit but I feel like I should have used it more this year ($1000 initiation and $1000 annual dues). I’m likely going to go a few times a week between now and Labor Day.

That's great but the commute is a cost in money and time compared to neighborhood pool where short visits are easy to schedule and teens can go alone.

Anonymous wrote:Op here, two kids and both parents wfh 8-4 so about 20 all family visits (with all 4 of us) with a few solo or one parent plus one kid visits. Hence, 100 ish visits collectively. I wish we could have used it more but we were traveling 2weeks and then some bad air quality days. Oh well, gotta get our money’s worth

Just so I understand your math. You are counting a 4 person outing as 4 "visits". The logic makes sense in order to track the costs. I think most of the other posters are thinking of one outing as a family as a single visit to the pool. Making 100 visits is much easier to do if you count every trip to the pool as 3-4 visits based on the number of people going.

Wow. I feel good if I get there 25-30 times in a summer.

Ha DH and I were just talking about this. We had dinner at the pool last night even though it was hectic with work but we wanted to get in a few more visits this summer to “get our moneys worth”
