We all know why OP is asking, even if we don’t personally experience this exact insecurity, no matter what size we are. It’s not like this is such a shocking premise. Come on. Body image and comparing oneself to other women and knowing full well that other women do, indeed, judge bodies and eating habits leads to OP’s question. Look no further than this very forum to see how harshly some people clearly observe, speculate and judge others, from “pasta Alfredo, never make THAT” in a current thread to the countless threads on “Midwesterners and their eating habits.”

Just stop with the faux shock. Even if you personally don’t experience what OP is talking about, don’t act like you don’t get where it is coming from. I’ve seen multiple threads on DCUM where people notice and speculate about others’ eating habits at restaurants, so why would OP and her friends be any different?

Speak for yourself. I don’t understand the thought process in the question. It’s incredibly bizarre.

What’s it like living under a rock, or having zero empathy? If you don’t get that lots of women struggle with their weight and their body image, and it affects their choices and thinking daily, you must have never taken a single health or psychology or sociology class, or read a single book or magazine article on any of those subjects.

You have won the genetics lottery. If I do not stick to consuming no more than 1200 calories/ day, within the 8 hour period per day, my size 14 frame will become a size 20 in a matter of months. I am glad you don’t care what others order but I do get all types of “advice ” from my slim friends when eating out. It’s frustrating but I just go along and let them order for me.

My question is if most of your friends are Size Zero or close and you are not..do you feel comfortable eating a bigger dish?

Why wouldn’t you? I don’t understand the question. Order what you want. Why do you care about the size of your dining companions?

Me too. Good lord.

I'm a size two, and wish you'd just order whatever you want. It's silly for you to get any specific thing because of my body. That makes no sense at all.

Same, and to the extent that I care about what anyone of any size orders it's rooted in that my girlfriends and I are all generally sharers so we like to coordinate our orders for the right overall balance of veg/meat/fish/carbs/flavors etc. to get to experience a range of dishes at a given restaurant. Don't care about your weight, but would 3 of us split the steak tartare or is that going to be me only?

I am a size 0 with ED history and it has never occurred to me to have an opinion about what someone else orders. Truthfully, I am surprised and saddened to hear people think about this.

The only time I care about other people’s orders is at tapas restaurants, when they say, Let’s just get one of these, and then everybody only gets a teeny tiny nibble. That makes me mad, lol!

I always get what i want regardless of the crowd. My naturally small friends do the same and don’t care what i eat and with my tiny, eating disordered friend i figure that modeling normal eating is what’s best for everyone. No sense in suffering along with them…

I am tiny (just how I am) and sincerely hope that when I eat out with my friends of varying sizes they order whatever strikes their fancy. I am not judging; it’s about spending time together.

I really think of myself as very insecure and self conscious and this hadn’t even occurred to me to worry about.

I eat whatever I want regardless of who I'm with. I tend to order entrees that will give me good leftovers the next day, with a salad or shared apps.

Nice! I am the OP and my friends eat the " bird portions" you described. And, they do not eat bread, rice or pasta and avoid gluten at all costs. I do not know how they survive.
