Jansport is what most kids use at my child’s school. Boy and girl, doesn’t matter. Black, marooon or navy.

My MS girl just asked for a north face which both her older sisters use in high school. The Jansport she has had for four years is still in good shape but I agreed considering it’s been awhile since I got her a new backpack. Older siblings love the north face one. Carries a lot. Doesn’t bother their back, holds up, etc.

LL Bean or Jansport. Quality has declined significantly in both though.

I like Adidas products. Would definitely use Adidas.

The North Face costs twice as much and does not hold up any better at the seams than Jansport or LL Bean, and for rips that occur away from seams or on straps, they are actually harder to fix because the material is not as good quality. You basically have to get a swatch of fabric and make a patch -- that never matches.
The zippers are the most critical point of failure in any backpack, and TNF zippers are not better than Jansport in that regard. With TNF you are paying a premium for the brand name, not durability.

I agree that Jansport wins for durability. However, Northface definitely wins for ergonomics and back support/shoulder comfort, which is a consideration if your kid walks to and from school and carries a heavy load.

Disagree on recent Jansports. I bought them for my kids a couple yrs ago and my the end of the school year there were holes in the bottoms and seams ripping. They don’t drag them or do anything out of ordinary. At first I chalked it up to fluke and sent it in for replacement. They have a warranty but it takes several weeks-months to process. Same thing happened again the following year and also with my second child’s. So I turned to LL bean and haven’t had these issues.
