The one that has made me feel the best? That I am a good husband and father. I've gotten that a few times and honestly it can turn my worst day into my best day just hearing it.

I’m “hot” and have gotten a ton of compliments since I was a teen. I remember almost none of them. I worked as a bartender in my twenties and I remember a middle-aged guy commenting, almost reverently, on how my eyelids made me look like I was already wearing makeup. I will never forget it

I unanimously won "mom you can talk to about anything" and her friends were all "your mom is seriously the best" And DD said "yeah, she is pretty great."

Let me tell you, I WEPT.

The best compliment!

I feel like you probably can get along with anyone, and everyone know not to f around either because you can handle yourself.

Accurate.

"You're so nice. You never talk bad about anyone. Seriously, I've never heard you say something mean."

A kid I tutored in high school sent me a letter years later saying I was the reason he "made it out".

A teacher told me I "got the highest score out of everyone who didn't cheat" on a test.

I did a year of volunteer work in a maximum security English prison in between college and grad school. I often ate in the officers’ mess, where inmates served the meals.

A former prisoner sent me a letter care of the visitors’ center in which he thanked me for seeing him as a person and not a number. He said I was the first person in all his time there to have ever asked his name and he said how much he appreciated that.

I’m so lucky I get to F you.

Said by spouse while making love sometime in 2016; I know it’s weird but it felt so good to hear at such a vulnerable moment.

I was told I look like the model Cindy Crawford.

A friend of one of my then teens thanked me once for really seeing him.

I'm not sure what was the event that prompted it, but it was a beautiful jolt.

I know it wasn't necessarily a compliment about me, but certainly made me feel like I broke some generational trauma.

Love this, because it was actually a compliment to you and DH - but also because a man of that era admitted that he could have been a much better parent and husband. That is a really big deal!

That I always know the right thing to say or do in a stressful, emotional situation.

This was said to me by a lifelong friend as we attended a funeral together.
