You think Cal is beautiful? Are you nuts? I live nearby and go there a lot. It’s very gritty. There is a lot to love about it, but beautiful is not a word I would ever use.


Cal is an honorable mention IMO. Yes, the city of Berkeley is certainly very gritty, especially Telegraph, but the campus itself is not. I think the area around Strawberry Creek is very serene and picturesque, along with the area leading up from University Ave, I believe it is the Eucalyptus grove. The campus has a park-like setting and many of the buildings have architectural significance, i.e., obviously the Campanile and Doe Library. The views from top of the campus afford amazing views of SF, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin headlands. What is not to like!? Compared to UCLA's campus, Cal's is much nicer. The area above the stairs near Royce Hall at UCLA is the only part of that campus that is interesting and appealing.

We visited UCLA over Christmas and were totally underwhelmed. Maybe it was becasie it was winter?
USC was much prettier IMO.

Technically it says “best” campuses, not most beautiful. Who knows what their definition of “best” is.

Maybe they know this area is obsessed with college admissions, so they are pandering to their audience with the Va schools & maybe trying to score points with the far right Christian crowd? (I am a Christian who attended Christian college and would NEVER consider Liberty due to Falwell power/politics/nastiness and academic censorship). I would not put these in T10 even though they are all very nice campuses.

PP, you need to understand that there is a difference between public and private schools. My own private, a SLAC, is now more beautiful than it ever was because that's what it thinks will attract private school dollars . But it's now $90K a yea and not worth it! As a taxpayer in VA,, I don't want to see UVA pumping money into landscaping - I'd rather see it go to scholarships for those that need it. I wouldn't assume UVA (or any other Virginia school) isn't wasting large amounts of money. Higher Education spending has been 3-4X above the rate of inflation for 40 years.
