This has been confirmed repeatedly by Colgate students & alumni. Obviously it works for some.

Colgate likes full-pay students as it is a need-aware school.

Colgates ED rate in 2022 is 22% and they take a lot of athletes. Pick the school that dc has a preference for in ED 1 and then figure out ED 2 if that doesn’t work out.

Be aware that you could technically apply to all ED: Colgate allows a late switch from an RD to ED2 application after other schools’ ED2 decisions are already out. For that reason, the best odds of getting into one would involve applying to Colgate last, after potentially being rejected ED1 and ED2 at the other schools.

Did the Colgate applicants apply ED? If so, informative. If not and he applies ED, not so much.

OP again. I know exactly what you mean and it's a big reason I feel Colgate is not a great fit. I come from that prep school world and hate it, so I'd like to keep my kid away from it as much as possible. Thanks.

Doesn't BC really draw from some schools vs. others? Of course they like the Catholic high schools but I know other privates that are real feeders as well (well over 15% admit rate). I don't know much about their admissions from public.

Not true. BC just opened the new 245 Beacon Street - Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society. 150,000 square feet of new space. Focal point of their new $300 million initiative in the sciences.

"Features include office and laboratory space for researchers and engineering faculty, and teaching laboratories that include computer science robotics. In addition, there are maker spaces for prototyping research, a clean room, and collaborative space for faculty and students. The new facility also houses BC’s Computer Science Department, Engineering Department, and the Shea Center, as well as classrooms."

ED, as others have said. These schools manipulate the appearance of prestige by being highly rejective in RD, because they stack the class with ED1 or ED2.

And be ready for a shakedown to "demonstrate your family's commitment" if wait listed.

Oh I didn't see kid has preference for BC - ED1 there, then decide which of the two remaining to ED2. I would say though if outright rejected (though that seems unlikely with ED), then definitely do Lehigh ED2.
