Dang it, I made a typo on my clever quip.

Yeah, in my experience this is when the parents of neurotypical kids make condescending comments about the parenting style of the parents of neurodivergent kids.

“This is your parenting style and I guess I have to respect it.”

It’s like, no, this isn’t my “parenting style”. I have an ASD child and I’m trying as hard as I can to make the best of it. Count your blessings.

How about the single adult childfree sibling who pays a share but everyone in the family expects her to share a bedroom with the kids (as in the grandkids)? I’ve been there, and I’ve seen DCUM posts about it.

"Make sure the house is spacious enough to accommodate everyone (technically) but also no one (comfortably). Some variations to maximize relationship destruction"

We've stayed places where there are enough bedrooms to sleep 10+, but a tiny common area and a kitchen table that seats 4.

One house had several bedrooms with en suite, except for one, ours. And there wasn't a common bathroom with a shower (just a tiny half bath), so we had to go through other people's bedrooms to take showers.

Jesus, how did you survive??

I never again will vacation somewhere I need to encroach on someone else's bedroom just to shower. Luckily we haven't run into again. And ever since the tiny family room house, I study the pictures closely to check out the common areas.

It's hard because most of my friends and family (including me) are on a budget. The BEST family vacation spot ever was when a relative splurged and treated us to a 5 bedroom house and every bedroom was an ocean view master. That was THE most relaxing vacation I've ever been on. But that's high livin' for us yokels, not the norm.

SIL wants the Ritz, MIL/FIL want Hampton Inn and neither will budge (all are well off.) so nothing ends up happening.

Hilarious! Thanks for the link, OP.

This is why I pay extra for enough rooms and bathrooms, and I insist on choosing the house. I don't expect others to pay as much as I do.

If I don't do that, my cheap husband or in-laws will stick us somewhere hellish; or my parents will refuse to come because they're used to more privacy and comfort.

As a result, we hardly ever do family house rentals, since it gets very expensive. But the rare times we've done them, and I've picked and paid for the house, it's been great.

Anyone who does not watch their kids, and likely partakes in day drinking, tends to be selfish and self centered, and makes a beach vacation quite miserable.

But on the flip side, how do you survive these family group vacations WITHOUT day drinking? Touché

You don’t say “touché” to your own point.

That has never happened on any extended family trips I’ve done. A lot of annoyances and conflicts but not that specific one. How about our kids wake up at 5:30 every day but don’t worry they’re really quiet they just like to scream and cry and bang doors and we are good at keeping them quietly by loudly stage whispering half heartedly directives that they ignore and you have kids too so I’m sure you know how it goes w kids haha and oh you’re up? I thought you said your kids always sleep til 7? Hmm strange they were up at 5:30 today just like we were!

We have the same SIL, apparently.

Why is it always the mom’s fault and responsibility?

I was original poster of this conversation and I was talking about my brother in this case. And my BIL does stuff like this (not making an effort to be quiet early in the morning, shrugging and acting as though he has no control over what his kids do) too. I definitely don’t think it’s all on the mom/woman.

In our case, it was a contest between how little SIL and MIL could do because "they paid".
