All camps are serious about meds if they want to keep their accreditation.

Huh? At the YMCA sleepaway camps my kids have been to they are VERY serious about meds.

So, I obviously don't know what state this is in, but that would not be allowed under camp licensing regulations in Maryland. And I suspect MD is not alone in that.

My 15 yo takes ADHD meds and I would trust him to take them but would be most worried about others stealing. Drug abuse is bad amongst teens right now, even the athletes. I would not be comfortable with this.

At my child's high school, she isn't even allowed to carry Advil -- all meds need to be held by the office. I can't believe camp rules are that different.

Mine is 17 and the camp requires the nurse to give her meds each morning and night. I would not be comfortable with her being responsible for it herself at all.

+1 My DD went to and is now staff at a sleepaway camp that includes kids up to age 15. There is a formal process to notify camp of any medications, check them in with the camp health staff, and (for the oldest kids) sign off on the kid handling their own medication if you are OK with that.

Both my kids also attended week-long residential programs on college campuses where there was also documentation of medications (both kids have ADHD) and authorization to allow them to keep the meds with them.

My kids camp is incredibly restrictive. All meds are controlled by the infirmary, and you have to go there to take them (including 17 year old on b/c). I'd say this is a camp problem, and I'd be in the directors office demanding answers
