This +1000. My job wouldn’t be Schedule F, but a lot of important executive branch policy jobs would be, and if we go R (not just Trump, de Santis is the same) we would likely see a bunch of novice dogmatic sycophants installed because of their partisan allegiance or just for bribery (“political contributions”). The government would do less, create churn, displace people and jobs, and probably end up costing more in the end. If there’s one thing we should have learned from the last administration it’s that some kids enjoy breaking other people’s toys and kicking puppies.

True. I am a contractor for a federal agency that deals with environmental issues, and during the Trump administration, we weren’t even allowed to mention climate change.

Your job is to remain apolitical at work and do your job to the best of your ability, given the resources you have in the best interest of the American public. Leaving helps nothing, does it? It can be easier to work at an agency that isn’t that politically divisive. Like, if you work for CFPB you will always be anxious.

If you’re looking to leave because you’re worried about the potential reclassification of your job….which loses security over the job you are thinking to leave?

Anyway. It’s up to you…..Federal service isn’t for everyone.


I have also worked for several administrations and I think you did not read OP's comment. The Republican party these days is nothing like the Republican party of Bush and prior Republican administrations. Donald Trump politicized the issue of civil service, which is a huge distractions for public servants like us who just want to work hard and go home at the end of the day.

I don't know what will happen if Turnip manages to get reelected. I don't think he will. But assuming he is, and has a R congress, what happens next is anyone's game. Turnip has historically been more bark than bite and didn't achieve a whole lot under his previous administration. I don't think he has the discipline nor attention span for massive agency reform.



I am an Independent and I don't think that's correct. Certainly, I don't see it that way.

This is untrue and is just spin from unhappy Republicans.

They have publicly stated that their goal is to make federal agencies MORE partisan by abolishing certain protections and longstanding firewalls. But if the FBI, DOJ, etc. are truly under Biden’s thumb, there should be no need to do that since it means whoever’s president can already control things however they want.

I decided not to apply for a term job at a higher level in environmental review in part because I'm concerned about job security, and think it may be safer to stay in a permanent position that is extremely unlikely to be targeted or RIFed (which could happen under Biden if the next budget is a disaster).

I'm worried, but I also think that the change won't be as severe. They're not able to convert everyone to Schedule F. It would be 10-20k policymaking employees throughout the federal government.
