I don't vape and never have but I find these false equivalancies weird. In the first place, vaping rarely has a smell unless it's vaping weed. The second hand effect is practically non existent, although people also greatly exaggerate tobacco second hand effect.
I find it a silly sight but calling it disgusting while we're surrounded by cars belching out emissions all the time is a bit silly. There's worse things people could be doing.
Second hand tobacco smoke is exaggerated? Dafook
Some people act as if you can get lung cancer from passing smokers on the sidewalk. The externalities of second hand smoke on non smokers is from prolonged exposure in enclosed indoor spaces, such as working in smoking bars or living with a smoker who smoked indoors. And prolonged means multiple years to decades. Based on some of the beliefs and fears surrounding second hand smoke these days, you'd think it amazing anyone survived pre 1990 America.
The only real unpleasantness I had with vapers was visiting our London offices. The men's bathroom stalls are the fully enclosed kinds, and they reeked of a fug that was most likely the accumulated vape smoke. The fug is more annoying than unpleasant.
In the US I rarely see vaping out and about but I imagine it's more common on college campuses. Kids will survive. Just like we did when smoking was allowed in the dorms in the 1990s.
