If you fall into water while intoxicated - especially cold water - you are likely to be dead in seconds. It takes only one teaspoon of water in the lungs to drown and most people will inhale that much water in the gasp response to falling into water, especially cold water, unexpectedly.

I believe these are all accidental drownings, but probably a few suicides in the the mix.

I always wonder about intoxicated men found drowned - were they trying to pee into the water? That is such a drunk guy thing to do, but also a recipe for potential disaster when highly intoxicated. I wonder if any of the victims had unzipped flies?

I love near Chicago and there are plenty of people who think these deaths are suspicious. But people also underestimate how dangerous Lake Michigan is. If people are heavily intoxicated and fall in, they're going to drown.
