It will be MUCH easier to fix now than to fix later. It is best to fix it now. One cannot foresee all the situations which could arise in future where the mistake might matter.

For my daughter, the birth time was what was wrong, so we did not bother to correct that. But for a name, I would.

That's interesting. I have 5 kids born in 4 different states and not 1 mistake on their BC. But, none were born in DC. Is that really a common thing? I would get it fixed, OP.

My daughter's birth certificate had several misspellings and the wrong birth date. The birth registrar at the hospital had to provide the correct information to DC to have the birth certificate corrected. It was a small hassle but quickly completed as the person who made the mistakes recognized them as mistakes. I imagine it could have been a bigger hassle if more time had passed, though I don't really know. I'd opt to get it corrected sooner than later.

Sorry me again - but the mistake is actually that I listed my married name as the maiden name - the reverse of what I said.

Exact same situation and the kid is almost 9 and I’ve never done anything about it. He had no problem getting a passport. But I feel like if something had been misspelled I would’ve gotten it corrected.

I've done passports and what's most important is that the parent's names and DOB on the BC matches the ID they presented. However, typos happen, generally what they are looking for is that it's not a completely different name or random DOB vs the name/DOB on the ID.
