My wife works as a Manager in a large local library. People are constantly ‘donating’ their basement and garage crap- books, CD’s, self published manuscripts, etc. Libraries have a system for acquisitions, based on the budget, library needs, etc.
Friends of the Library is not the same as the Library staff itself. And in Fairfax County, the FOTL definitely want the used CDs, books, et alia for fundraising. Each Fairfax County library has a special location for the FOTL items.

Thanks!

Fairfax County’s Friends of the Library definitely does want these. They put them out for sale at the library on a special shelf, for a nominal sum. I have sometimes bought used books, CDs, and DVDs from them.
Proceeds benefit the county libraries. So donating CDs (or DVDs or used books) to the Friends of the Library is a win-win.
