I posted above. I am ambivalent about whether I would get soapstone again, but it's not because of the material per se, it's because it turns out I don't love having dark countertops. I don't think I would have been happier with dark granite.

+1 I have kids and a less than careful husband. I was going to do Virginia most/jet mist leathered, but went with leathered black mist granite. Love it, and I don’t worry about its durability. soapstone is gorgeous though!

These are all the same stones by different names at different yards/suppliers. They typically come honed on one side, leathered on the other.

Mmm, not where I went. What was labeled Virginia mist or jet mist was very light grey. The black mist is much darker - hence why I chose it. And the warehouse I went to only had leathered or polished - no honed. YMMV, but it’s seller specific.

I like mine (it’s a year old) but it has developed darker spots where we keep small appliances out. Not sure if I could even those out with beeswax (I don’t care that much).

Also, it’s hard to see ants! I have never had dark counters before and didn’t think about this. We have some coming in and it’s hard to know how big the problem is.
