I wonder how these teams fill their B meet schedules. We are an upper mid level team that does a B meet every year with one of the top 3. They are not nearly as obnoxious as they are at the all star meets of course but still lack the good sportsmanship of our other B meet partners. It’s also difficult for us to host their massive team every other year. There is always talk of us replacing them with someone else but I guess we keep them out of geographical convenience

I wish people would stop asking what these 3 teams do. They are obnoxious a-holes from top to bottom. Coaches and parents set a bad precedent It's not new - been going on for years. NVSL is too scared to do anything as well. Grow a set NVSL.

We belong to one of these pools and the swim team is awful. They’re basically teaching kids from the youngest ages to be rude and obnoxious. Funny thing is most of these kids will burn out because all the coaches and parents care about is winning now instead of long term development.

There are 102 teams in NVSL. 99 of them despise (and no Overlee, Chesterbrook, and Tuckahoe none of the 99 are "jealous" of you) 3 of them.

My kids swim on a team that has bumped around between division 10 and 13, and our team has literally no opinion at all about teams not in our division or B meet group. We certainly don't despise anyone.

D1 tribute here. I used to think our goal was to avoid relegation, but not so sure that’s actually a “bad thing.” We have—by far—the most enjoyable D1 experience because our parents are pretty sane, the team reinforces encouragement & support for teammates, the pool is lovely, and there’s a decent emphasis on fun. We have a number on friends and winter teammates on Chesterbrook, Tuckahoe, and Overlee. Individually, most of these kids & parents are awesome, kind, respectful, etc. The championship mentality at these pools breeds excellent swimming, but turns normal NOVA Type As into super-crazed swimmers & swim parents for 6 weeks in the summer. Like turning into a vampire after being bitten by a bat. On July 30th, they’ll all turn back into normal high-achievers.

If we stay in D1, we welcome whichever team wants to party with us at the bottom.

I’m honestly curious how that happens. Don’t you have to live in the neighborhood to join the pool? Do they recruit?

Back in our day, at least, literally everyone on the team lived in the neighborhood. We knew them all.

I never liked the swim team only because the meets were long and boring and the parents got on my nerves. I have a thing against rich white privilege even though my kids fit the stereotype. The kids had fun though, so I smiled and sucked it up.

I never sensed any more competitiveness at Overlee and the swim team than any other thing/activity in North Arlington more generally. I find it hard to believe that things are dramatically different in neighborhoods outside of Overlee. Maybe prolonged success breeds jealousy and contempt - like the Yankees or Notre Dame football? But in the end they are only neighborhood pools having silly summer swim meets with other neighborhoods with very little at stake. So it it really fair to say that Overlee parents suck and are super competitive if other parents from other neighborhoods themselves care so much about all of this bullshit that they’re starting threads about it? Isn’t that a case of pot calling kettle?

I think a lot of these threads are good natured, with questions, etc.

I would say most of the teams that my kids swim against the kids on the other team are lovely. Kind, sweet, etc. This season the kids with their opposing swimmers would tell one another how great they are or were. Tell them that they are a fast swimmer (to opposing team), etc. High five one another or shake hands prior to the race. That to me is summer swim, everyone raising one another up (we are a D7 pool).

The Big Three are NOT that. They are white privilege and obnoxious. Yelling about their superiority and denigrating those not in their cult. It is sad. There is no envy here.

I wonder if it is tied to the rivalry among the 3. They face other every year with intense competition which leads to natural rivalries. That could explain somewhat the behavior when facing each other. It becomes a real problem when it leaks over to competitions when they are facing the other 99 teams in the NVSL. The swimmers and parents get used to acting a certain boorish way. I kind of wish it were possible for them to leave the NVSL entirely and just face each other twice every year.

Maybe they used to be a neighborhood only pool (I’m not sure) but that is not the case now.

I think that is cute, they are proud of their swimmer.

Maybe the age makes a difference, it was at the 11-12 session. It just screamed someone being that swim parent. If you are at the 11-12 session of LC champs everyone knows your swimmer is good, your ASR shirt adds nothing to that other than to look obnoxious.

I wasn’t at ASR this year, but I was there last year and a lot of those parents were just straight up obnoxious when they were in the stands. It’s hard to explain, but imagine a bunch of frat bros just did a bump of coke and are on a major power trip, beating their chests and shouting at their kids to TAKE THE OTHER TEAM DOOOOWWWWNNN!!!!! It was kind of like that. Made me very happy to not be in their division. I genuinely feel bad for the tributes. I’ll be rooting for them though!

That describes the parents and the kids perfectly.

I think that is a fair assessment. I am not jealous of their culture. I am sad that they focus on winning at all costs, that they have terrible sportsmanship, and that their children our caricatures from a movie of the rude, entitled, obnoxious jock type that thinks the world to bend to them. Manners and humility are not taught. It doesn't help that they are white as all get out, so it has a white entitlement feel to their behavior.

I bought one for myself the last two years. My child likes for me to wear it. I’ll probably buy one for individual all star as well. They are only 8 though. I’ll probably stop when they get older

I don’t understand this at all. They are kids all star meet shirts, why would an adult be wearing one other than to be obnoxious?

Because I’m proud of my kid and I like to wear it? I’m a dad, I don’t know if that matters. And I really don’t care at all what others think.
