I wore jeans, a nice button down, good bag, and flats. Do my hair, wear jewelry. Basically my standard for interacting with people in their place of work…doctor, dentist, etc. I hate to feel frumpy and out of place, but am not going to run out and buy a suit for the occasion.

Guess who’s buying a whole damn suit the next time she gets called for jury duty.

All that really matters is that you’re fully covered and will be comfortable sitting around in the a/c. I’d probably try not to wear jeans because of the voice of my mother in my head, but I wouldn’t stress.

If you get put on a jury, you can always step up the formality if you want to signal respect for the court and all the people involved.

Don't stress too much. The last few times I got a duty notice, I was dismissed when I called in the day before. DC is no-papering a lot of cases right now, so demand for jurors is probably low.

I personally like to show respect for the institution, so I go for the business end of business casual. But I also don't wear anything uncomfortable. Plenty of people will show up in sweats because they resent being there or don't own anything nicer. Don't worry about it.

My mother got called and was really excited to go (she's retired, not a lot going on).

She got dressed to the nines -- her best outfit, jewelry, hair.

She didn't last 10 minutes.

As long as your neat and clean there’s no need to buy new clothes.
That's funny, I guess the rules are different in different places. I'm the poster above you and there are always tons of people in jeans and t-shirts when I go. More jeans and Tshirts than not, actually.

Not where I am - MoCo/MD. Most are dressed semi casual but not too informal. Where are you?

I'd wear jeans, personally. Lots of people who get called for jury duty don't have business clothes.

People who have a work wardrobe wear that, maybe business casual. People who wear jeans regularly wear jeans. It tells you something that they explicitly state no shorts and no halter tops. Everyone isn’t showing up in business attire.
